About Flow State Freediving

We’re Immy and Joe

A couple who found freediving, fell completely in love with it, and decided to build a life around teaching it. Above all, we aim to create an open, welcoming and fun way for people to learn freediving.

We did our AIDA instructor training in Dahab together, teach together, and travel full-time together — moving between ocean destinations around the world, teaching people to freedive and exploring new waters along the way. We wouldn’t swap it for anything.

As full time travellers for the past 18 months, we’ve freedived in epic locations like The Maldives, Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey and Thailand. We love using our adventurous spirit to create shared special experiences in ocean destinations. Bringing people together and empowering them to explore the water in the most freeing way possible: through freediving.

We teach freediving courses on specific dates, in various locations around the world. Sign up to our mailing list, and check out our courses page for updates.

We say Flow State Freediving is “deeper than diving”, because it’s less about the physical depth, and more about how deeply we understand ourselves and our minds.

We’re not about the numbers, we’re all about the journey and how it feels on each dive. With us, freediving feels fun, low pressure and about presence in the moment.

With our holistic approach, we use a combination of methods from yoga to psychology to elevate your freediving experience.

We want you to feel like you’re diving a trusted friend, we’ll be your cheerleaders while making sure your safety is a priority.

What we’re building

We started Flow State because we were looking for a freediving community that was built around the fun, non-serious and wellness side of freediving. One that was less about the depth, and more about the deep connections you form with other freedivers and yourself.

Right now we're travelling, teaching, running small group trips and building our worldwide community. We are travellers at heart, so running trips and courses around the world is a pretty epic life for us!

Our future dream is our own school — a home base where we can build a permanent community around freediving and ocean adventure.

If you want to follow along, learn with us, or join one of our trips — we'd love to have you.

Meet Your Instructors

We completed our AIDA Freediving Instructor Training in Dahab, Egypt, known as “the Mecca of freediving”. We’ve been lucky enough to dive with a range of teachers, from those focused on a holistic approach to national record holders who’ve finessed our technique. We have taken inspiration from world freedivers, to craft our own teaching style and methods.

We’re emergency first response trained, and always take safety seriously, whether its on a fun dive or line training. We refresh safety procedures with our students regularly.

Immy

Since my first freediving session in Koh Tao, I knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life. For me, freediving is a way to switch off from the outside world, it’s like a meditation but with an immersive experience to give your complete focus to. It quietened my mind and gave me such a sense of achievement. I love seeing this light up in others too.

My teaching style is calm and reassuring, encouraging gradual, sustainable progress and mastering the basics before going deeper. I enjoy teaching my students about nervous system regulation, and use unique techniques such as EFT to overcome blockages.

A big passion of mine is attracting more women to the sport, and I have researched and created tools that help women understand how to train in alignment with their menstrual cycle. This is based on my own, and other’s experiences.

Joe

Believe it or not, I used to be terrified of deep water. I never felt like I was made for the ocean. Even my first freediving session was a struggle, I couldn’t equalise properly and my breath-hold was lacking.

But during my first AIDA 2 course, everything changed.

Hanging on the line 15 metres, completely suspended in the blue, the world suddenly felt still and peaceful. My mind wasn’t even telling me to breathe. It was one of the most powerful moments of my life.

Now, my mission is to help others experience that same feeling. To show that the water isn’t something to fear, but somewhere we truly belong.
